Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Finance & Investment and Electrical/Machinery sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.71%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Advantest Corp. (T:6857), which rose 13.40% or 130.0 points to trade at 1100.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) added 3.87% or 34.0 points to end at 913.0 and Sharp Corp. (T:6753) was up 3.76% or 5.0 points to 138.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6770), which fell 17.43% or 466.0 points to trade at 2208.0 at the close. Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976) declined 8.86% or 127.0 points to end at 1307.0 and Nisshin Steel Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:5413) was down 7.38% or 87.0 points to 1092.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1091 to 798.
Shares in Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6770) fell to 52-week lows; falling 17.43% or 466.0 to 2208.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.10% to 38.07.
Crude oil for March delivery was down 1.50% or 0.48 to $31.82 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April fell 1.34% or 0.46 to hit $33.48 a barrel, while the February Gold contract rose 0.16% or 1.80 to trade at $1117.60 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.06% to 118.60, while EUR/JPY fell 0.17% to 129.03.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.08% at 99.10.
