Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Gold, Energy and Resources sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.11%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Sirtex Medical Ltd (ASX:SRX), which rose 9.69% or 2.910 points to trade at 32.940 at the close. Meanwhile, Flight Centre Ltd (ASX:FLT) added 6.92% or 2.260 points to end at 34.900 and Rea Group Ltd (ASX:REA) was up 6.43% or 2.650 points to 43.850 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Metcash Ltd (ASX:MTS), which fell 6.33% or 0.075 points to trade at 1.110 at the close. Computershare Ltd. (ASX:CPU) declined 5.75% or 0.610 points to end at 10.000 and Beach Energy Ltd (ASX:BPT) was down 4.60% or 0.040 points to 0.830.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 507 to 479 and 164 ended unchanged.
Shares in Computershare Ltd. (ASX:CPU) fell to 52-week lows; down 5.75% or 0.610 to 10.000. Shares in Beach Energy Ltd (ASX:BPT) fell to 3-years lows; falling 4.60% or 0.040 to 0.830.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 1.68% to 19.192.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.26% or 2.90 to $1120.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.53% or 0.23 to hit $43.53 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.60% or 0.30 to trade at $50.48 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.21% to 0.7362, while AUD/JPY rose 0.03% to 91.67.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.29% at 96.56.
