Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Consumer Discretionary, Utilities and Telecoms Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 fell 1.44%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Mineral Resources Ltd (ASX:MIN), which rose 4.37% or 0.180 points to trade at 4.300 at the close. Meanwhile, Cimic Group Ltd (ASX:CIM) added 4.37% or 1.000 points to end at 23.900 and Monadelphous Group Ltd (ASX:MND) was up 4.10% or 0.290 points to 7.360 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Myer Holdings Ltd (ASX:MYR), which fell 20.56% or 0.233 points to trade at 0.900 at the close. Slater & Gordon Ltd (ASX:SGH) declined 8.06% or 0.250 points to end at 2.850 and Drillsearch Energy Ltd (ASX:DLS) was down 6.90% or 0.040 points to 0.540.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 592 to 383 and 176 ended unchanged.
Shares in Myer Holdings Ltd (ASX:MYR) fell to all time lows; losing 20.56% or 0.233 to 0.900. Shares in Slater & Gordon Ltd (ASX:SGH) fell to 52-week lows; down 8.06% or 0.250 to 2.850. Shares in Drillsearch Energy Ltd (ASX:DLS) fell to 3-years lows; losing 6.90% or 0.040 to 0.540.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 0.78% to 29.486.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.11% or 1.30 to $1132.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.71% or 0.33 to hit $45.92 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.68% or 0.34 to trade at $50.16 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.30% to 0.7017, while AUD/JPY fell 0.24% to 84.50.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.09% at 95.97.
