Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Technology Hardware & Equipment, Construction & Materials and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.08%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were ARM Holdings PLC (L:ARM), which rose 6.54% or 63.00 points to trade at 1026.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Merlin Entertainments PLC (L:MERL) added 4.68% or 17.40 points to end at 389.00 and CRH PLC (L:CRH) was up 3.77% or 65.00 points to 1791.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Pearson PLC (L:PSON), which fell 15.95% or 189.50 points to trade at 998.50 at the close. Weir Group PLC (L:WEIR) declined 6.32% or 73.00 points to end at 1082.00 and Anglo American PLC (L:AAL) was down 2.95% or 18.40 points to 604.60.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1132 to 1036 and 439 ended unchanged.
Shares in Pearson PLC (L:PSON) fell to 52-week lows; falling 15.95% or 189.50 to 998.50. Shares in Weir Group PLC (L:WEIR) fell to 5-year lows; down 6.32% or 73.00 to 1082.00.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.99% or 11.70 to $1165.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.07% or 0.96 to hit $45.33 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.41% or 0.69 to trade at $48.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.06% to 1.5454, while EUR/GBP fell 0.03% to 0.7344.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.07% at 94.97.
