Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the A-REITs, Utilities and Financials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.73%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Ten Network Holdings Ltd (AX:TEN), which rose 11.76% or 0.020 points to trade at 0.190 at the close. Meanwhile, Whitehaven Coal Ltd (AX:WHC) added 9.79% or 0.095 points to end at 1.065 and Drillsearch Energy Ltd (AX:DLS) was up 8.94% or 0.055 points to 0.670 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Iluka Resources Ltd (AX:ILU), which fell 8.02% or 0.590 points to trade at 6.770 at the close. Pacific Brands Ltd (AX:PBG) declined 6.47% or 0.045 points to end at 0.650 and Transpacific Industries Group Ltd (AX:TPI) was down 4.51% or 0.030 points to 0.635.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 601 to 392 and 126 ended unchanged.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 1.47% to 18.734.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.86% or 10.20 to $1177.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.47% or 0.68 to hit $47.06 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.10% or 0.55 to trade at $50.27 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.43% to 0.7296, while AUD/JPY fell 0.31% to 86.87.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.02% at 94.47.
