Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Mining and Chemicals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 2.91%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were RSA Insurance Group PLC (LONDON:RSA), which rose 0.72% or 2.900 points to trade at 406.200 at the close. Meanwhile, Fresnillo PLC (LONDON:FRES) fell 0.08% or 0.50 points to end at 596.50 and National Grid PLC (LONDON:NG) was down 0.41% or 3.50 points to 851.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Glencore PLC (LONDON:GLEN), which fell 10.63% or 12.6500 points to trade at 106.3500 at the close. Johnson Matthey PLC (LONDON:JMAT) declined 8.09% or 204.00 points to end at 2318.00 and Antofagasta PLC (LONDON:ANTO) was down 7.25% or 41.00 points to 524.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1905 to 306 and 401 ended unchanged.
Shares in Glencore PLC (LONDON:GLEN) fell to all time lows; down 10.63% or 12.6500 to 106.3500. Shares in Johnson Matthey PLC (LONDON:JMAT) fell to 52-week lows; falling 8.09% or 204.00 to 2318.00. Shares in Antofagasta PLC (LONDON:ANTO) fell to 5-year lows; losing 7.25% or 41.00 to 524.50.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.71% or 8.00 to $1124.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 3.19% or 1.50 to hit $45.46 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.85% or 0.91 to trade at $48.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.87% to 1.5372, while EUR/GBP rose 0.29% to 0.7235.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.48% at 96.50.
