Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Clean Technology, Financials and Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.75%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Penn West Petroleum Ltd. (TO:PWT), which rose 10.39% or 0.08 points to trade at 0.85 at the close. Meanwhile, Black Diamond Group Limited (TO:BDI) added 8.47% or 0.63 points to end at 8.07 and Canadian Energy Services & Technology Corp (TO:CEU) was up 6.74% or 0.36 points to 5.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI), which fell 7.04% or 0.19 points to trade at 2.51 at the close. Intertain Group (TO:IT) declined 5.46% or 0.65 points to end at 11.25 and Amaya Inc (TO:AYA) was down 5.40% or 1.51 points to 26.46.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 888 to 510 and 173 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.03% to 32.35.
Gold for December delivery was down 1.20% or 13.90 to $1139.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.61% or 0.61 to hit $38.85 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.43% or 0.18 to trade at $42.88 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.40% to 0.7497, while CAD/EUR rose 0.60% to 0.6518.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.72% at 94.06.
