Investing.com – Australia equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Resources and Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Monadelphous Group Ltd (AX:MND), which rose 8.32% or 0.760 points to trade at 9.890 at the close. Worleyparsons Ltd (AX:WOR) added 6.25% or 0.540 points to end at 9.180 and Sims Metal Management Ltd (AX:SGM) was up 5.43% or 0.500 points to 9.700 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Estia Health Ltd (AX:EHE), which lost 5.88% or 0.170 points to trade at 2.720 in late trade. St Barbara Ltd (AX:SBM) declined 5.45% or 0.150 points to end at 2.600 and APN Outdoor Group Ltd (AX:APO) shed 3.47% or 0.180 points to 5.010.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 521 to 506 and 308 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.63% to 13.544.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.07% or 0.90 to $1259.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.19% or 0.10 to hit $51.25 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.21% or 0.11 to trade at $53.03 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.62% to 0.7561, while AUD/JPY fell 0.29% to 78.59.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.12% at 97.03.
