Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Transportation Equipment, Construction and Chemical sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 2.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nitto Denko Co (T:6988), which rose 8.21% or 519.0 points to trade at 6840.0 at the close. Tosoh Corp. (T:4042) added 8.05% or 38.0 points to end at 510.0 and Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5201) was up 8.01% or 50.0 points to 674.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Marubeni Corp. (T:8002), which lost 6.40% or 36.3 points to trade at 530.6 in late trade. Nippon Express Co., Ltd. (T:9062) declined 4.45% or 22.0 points to end at 472.0 and IHI Corp. (T:7013) shed 3.27% or 8.0 points to 237.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1688 to 266 and 49 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.07% to 26.49.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.41% or 0.18 to $43.62 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.87% or 0.38 to hit $44.01 a barrel, while the June Gold contract rose 0.14% or 1.75 to trade at $1268.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.36% to 108.72, while EUR/JPY rose 0.45% to 123.85.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.04% at 94.10.
