Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Construction & Materials and General Industrial sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (LON:ICAG), which rose 3.63% or 18.50 points to trade at 528.00 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 3.61% or 24.20 points to end at 694.70 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 3.60% or 15.30 points to 440.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU), which lost 2.56% or 24.50 points to trade at 932.50 in late trade. Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) declined 2.12% or 24.000 points to end at 1109.000 and Diageo PLC (LON:DGE) shed 0.52% or 9.50 points to 1833.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1540 to 552 and 453 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.32% or 4.05 to $1265.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.77% or 0.38 to hit $49.51 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.78% or 0.39 to trade at $50.27 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.65% to 1.4804, while EUR/GBP fell 0.05% to 0.7672.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.33% at 93.50.
