Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.92%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which rose 6.64% or 91.000 points to trade at 1462.000 at the close. GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) added 1.82% or 25.000 points to end at 1400.000 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) was up 1.75% or 3.3500 points to 195.1500 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which lost 18.16% or 31.0000 points to trade at 139.7500 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 15.47% or 97.20 points to end at 530.90 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) shed 9.45% or 56.00 points to 536.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1513 to 670 and 390 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.25% or 3.20 to $1267.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 3.27% or 1.24 to hit $36.66 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 2.52% or 1.03 to trade at $39.81 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.18% to 1.4238, while EUR/GBP rose 0.34% to 0.7747.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.12% at 97.00.
