Investing.com – Belgium equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Utilities, Consumer Services and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Brussels, the BEL 20 rose 0.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the BEL 20 were Engie SA (PA:ENGIE), which rose 2.35% or 0.27 points to trade at 11.52 at the close. Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize NV (AS:AD) added 1.55% or 0.30 points to end at 19.68 and Solvay SA (BR:SOLB) was up 1.41% or 1.41 points to 101.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NV Bekaert SA (BR:BEKB), which lost 1.30% or 0.48 points to trade at 36.34 in late trade. Galapagos NV (AS:GLPG) declined 0.98% or 0.550 points to end at 55.850 and UCB (BR:UCB) shed 0.19% or 0.12 points to 61.75.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 81 to 62 and 17 ended unchanged on the Brussels Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.40% or 4.85 to $1213.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 4.06% or 1.88 to hit $48.24 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 4.14% or 1.94 to trade at $48.80 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.20% to 1.0610, while EUR/GBP fell 1.09% to 0.8498.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.32% at 101.09.
