Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Mining, Real Estate and Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.35% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 8.58% or 63.90 points to trade at 808.90 at the close. Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) added 7.81% or 106.00 points to end at 1464.00 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) was up 7.72% or 28.800 points to 402.000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which lost 1.50% or 11.00 points to trade at 724.00 in late trade. Shire PLC (LON:SHP) declined 0.47% or 23.00 points to end at 4818.00 and Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) shed 0.46% or 6.00 points to 1304.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1858 to 312 and 373 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.10% or 1.35 to $1359.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 1.01% or 0.46 to hit $44.95 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.98% or 0.46 to trade at $46.30 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.29% to 1.2989, while EUR/GBP fell 0.19% to 0.8507.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.34% at 96.64.
