Investing.com – Nigeria equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Banking, Food, Beverages & Tobacco and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Lagos, the NSE 30 added 0.72% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the NSE 30 were Guaranty Bnk (LAGOS:GUARANT), which rose 4.45% or 1.09 points to trade at 25.64 at the close. Stanbicibtc Hl (LAGOS:IBTC) added 3.52% or 0.51 points to end at 15.01 and Diamond Bank (LAGOS:DIAMONB) was up 3.41% or 0.030 points to 0.910 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Total Nig (LAGOS:TOTAL), which lost 4.40% or 12.77 points to trade at 277.20 in late trade. Union Bank LG (LAGOS:UBN) declined 2.46% or 0.11 points to end at 4.38 and Dangote Flour Mills PLC (LAGOS:DANGFLOUR) shed 0.73% or 0.03 points to 4.07.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 21 to 13 and 77 ended unchanged on the Lagos.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was down 0.61% or 0.31 to $50.73 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 0.32% or 0.17 to hit $53.73 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 3.14% or 36.55 to trade at $1127.15 a troy ounce.
EUR/NGN was down 2.23% to 327.960, while USD/NGN fell 0.71% to 314.750.
The US Dollar Index was up 1.27% at 103.33.
