Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Electronic & Electrical Equipment, Construction & Materials and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 2.75% or 43.00 points to trade at 1606.00 at the close. Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) added 2.16% or 3.85 points to end at 182.30 and Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) was up 2.09% or 7.50 points to 365.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which lost 3.82% or 62.00 points to trade at 1560.00 in late trade. CRH PLC (LON:CRH) declined 3.48% or 100.00 points to end at 2774.00 and British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) shed 3.34% or 22.50 points to 651.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1303 to 580 and 458 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.67% or 20.69 to $1257.09 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.23% or 0.60 to hit $49.26 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.41% or 0.73 to trade at $52.38 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.22% to 1.2946, while EUR/GBP rose 0.27% to 0.8602.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.56% at 97.55.
