Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Electrical sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 2.13% to hit a new 3-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which rose 2.98% or 28.50 points to trade at 985.50 at the close. Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT) added 0.21% or 0.80 points to end at 374.00 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) was down 0.08% or 0.50 points to 600.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which lost 5.65% or 35.90 points to trade at 599.50 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 5.30% or 22.10 points to end at 394.50 and SKY PLC (LON:SKYB) shed 4.66% or 41.50 points to 850.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1973 to 250 and 318 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.14% or 1.75 to $1285.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.17% or 0.57 to hit $48.31 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.49% or 0.75 to trade at $49.60 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.96% to 1.4133, while EUR/GBP rose 0.10% to 0.7931.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.60% at 94.99.
