CAIRO, June 2 (Reuters) - The lowest offer presented at an Egyptian state tender for wheat on Tuesday was $210 for 60,000 tonnes of Ukrainian wheat on a free-on-board (FOB) basis, traders said.
Egypt's state grains buyer, the General Authority for Supply Commodities, said it was seeking an unspecified quantity of wheat for July 10-25 shipment.
Traders said the shipment period might be difficult to meet because of uncertainty about the impact on the harvest of recent dry weather in the Black Sea region where Egypt sources most of its imported wheat.
Russia's largest grain trader, privately-held RIF, presented an offer, the first time the trading house has taken part in a GASC wheat tender, traders said.
Egypt's own wheat harvest is underway and the government has so far procured 3.1 million tonnes of local grain from a target of 3.6 million tonnes. wheat tender is the third during the Egypt's harvest this year, a shift in the country's standard practice of not purchasing imported grain during local procurement season.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi had urged authorities to bolster the country's strategic reserves in the face of uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The supply ministry subsequently said it planned to purchase 800,000 tonnes of imported wheat, of which it already bought 360,000 in two consecutive tenders in April. gave the following breakdown of the offers received on Tuesday in dollars per tonne FOB:
