Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Royal Dutch Shell PLC B (LON:RDSb), which rose 6.67% or 126.50 points to trade at 2022.00 at the close. Royal Dutch Shell PLC (LON:RDSa) added 6.59% or 119.00 points to end at 1924.50 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was up 6.47% or 71.00 points to 1168.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 26.72% or 254.50 points to trade at 698.00 in late trade. Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL) declined 5.86% or 27.50 points to end at 442.10 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) shed 4.19% or 20.700 points to 472.900.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1235 to 930 and 432 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.19% or 2.45 to $1321.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 2.06% or 0.97 to hit $48.02 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.75% or 0.86 to trade at $50.10 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.18% to 1.2997, while EUR/GBP rose 0.39% to 0.8652.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.02% at 95.29.
