Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Industrial Engineering and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 8.04% or 171.00 points to trade at 2297.00 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 2.86% or 9.05 points to end at 325.10 and Babcock International Group PLC (LON:BAB) was up 2.29% or 20.50 points to 914.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Informa Plc (LON:INF), which lost 1.30% or 8.50 points to trade at 643.00 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 1.30% or 15.00 points to end at 1141.00 and Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML) shed 1.20% or 2.70 points to 222.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 957 to 947 and 487 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.24% or 2.85 to $1199.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.61% or 0.77 to hit $48.49 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.30% or 0.66 to trade at $51.58 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.51% to 1.2213, while EUR/GBP fell 0.21% to 0.8708.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 101.34.
