MELBOURNE, Sept 17 (Reuters) - BHP Billiton BHP.AX BLT.L said on Thursday its copper operations in Chile have not been affected by a huge earthquake off the country's coast.
"BHP Billiton operations have not been impacted," a spokesperson said.
The miner is majority owner and operator of the world's biggest copper mine, Escondida.
A magnitude 8.3 earthquake hit off the coast of Chile on Wednesday, shaking buildings in the capital city of Santiago and generating a tsunami warning for Chile, Peru and French Polynesia.
