Aug 2 (Reuters) - AGL Energy, Australia's top power producer, said on Friday it has told the country's energy market operator that it will close one unit at its Liddell power station in April 2022, but keep the remaining three open till April 2023.
AGL had previously indicated that Liddell would close in 2022 after 50 years of operation.
AGL said it will also keep its Torrens A power station near Adelaide in South Australia running this summer, before closing it down progressively by 2022, the company said in a statement.
Last year, AGL turned down a A$250 million offer https://www.reuters.com/article/australia-power-agl-energy/update-2-australias-agl-rejects-alinta-offer-for-ageing-coal-fired-plant-idUSL3N1SR0OX for Liddell from Chinese-owned Alinta Energy and shunned government pleas to keep the facility open beyond 2022.
