Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Financials and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.67%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were New Gold Inc . (TO:NGD), which rose 7.16% or 0.330 points to trade at 4.940 at the close. Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI) added 7.12% or 0.26 points to end at 3.91 and Klondex Mines Ltd. (TO:KDX) was up 5.92% or 0.250 points to 4.470 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI), which lost 9.62% or 0.150 points to trade at 1.410 in late trade. Hudson's Bay Company (TO:HBC) declined 6.78% or 0.82 points to end at 11.27 and Teck Resources Ltd B (TO:TECKb) shed 6.68% or 2.11 points to 29.47.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 692 to 407 and 129 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 37.72% to 7.58.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.01% or 13.40 to $1343.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.66% or 1.26 to hit $48.55 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.51% or 0.79 to trade at $53.13 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.22% to 0.8072, while CAD/EUR rose 0.12% to 0.6777.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.32% at 92.27.
