Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, Technology Hardware & Equipment and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Next PLC (LON:NXT), which rose 3.93% or 178.00 points to trade at 4712.00 at the close. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) added 3.69% or 13.40 points to end at 376.10 and Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) was up 3.27% or 10.50 points to 332.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML), which lost 5.54% or 11.60 points to trade at 197.70 in late trade. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) declined 2.67% or 6.10 points to end at 221.90 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) shed 2.42% or 14.50 points to 584.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1180 to 1171 and 423 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.19% or 2.40 to $1258.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.46% or 0.75 to hit $50.60 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.58% or 0.84 to trade at $52.30 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.10% to 1.2226, while EUR/GBP rose 0.44% to 0.9047.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.65% at 97.54.
