MELBOURNE, Aug 10 (Reuters) - AGL Energy AGL.AX , Australia's top power producer, reported a 14 percent rise in annual underlying profit on Thursday, buoyed by rising electricity prices, but its bottom line was marred by big hedging losses in a volatile market.
Underlying profit rose to A$802 million ($633 million) for the year to June from A$701 million a year ago, beating analysts' forecasts.
AGL had forecast in February that it expected a full-year underlying profit between A$760 million and A$800 million, and analysts had expected underlying profit of A$789 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
