Investing.com - The Ukrainian capital of Kyiv faced a barrage of approximately 15 cruise missiles on Tuesday, marking the second consecutive day of attacks. Air defense systems managed to neutralize all incoming threats, ensuring the safety of its citizens.

Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv's city military administration, stated that similar to previous attempts at aggression, this attack too was unsuccessful. The information was shared via the Telegram messaging app.

These latest assaults are part of an ongoing pattern in May and follows Russia's deployment last Monday of their largest drone swarm yet. This aerial campaign resumed after remaining dormant since early March.

Coinciding with Russia's Victory Day – a public holiday commemorating Nazi Germany's defeat in 1945 – these attacks were aimed at inflicting maximum civilian casualties on this symbolic day for Russia.

Popko mentioned that initial reports indicate no casualties from the missile strikes launched from the Caspian Sea region. Debris from intercepted missiles landed on residential property in Kyiv’s southwest Holosiivskyi district but resulted in minimal damage and no injuries, according to Mayor Vitalii Klitschko’s statement on his Telegram channel.

In central Kyiv’s frequently-targeted Shevchenkivskyi district, remnants from destroyed missiles were discovered along roadsides. Despite these persistent threats against their city, Popko remains optimistic about Kyiv’s resilience and ability to withstand future attacks.
