Yandal Resources Ltd (ASX:YRL) has kicked off a 4,500-metre reverse circulation (RC) drill campaign chasing gold at its 100%-owned Ironstone Well-Barwidgee Gold Project.
The project is a short 50 kilometres south of the Jundee gold mine, along the Yandal Greenstone Belt of Western Australia.
Big program planned
The program has kicked off at the large-scale Oblique prospect and the nearby Quarter Moon prospect.
A diamond drilling program is planned for April to test for deeper extensions at both sites, along with the New England Granite prospect.
The prospects are a stone’s throw – 5 kilometres – from the company’s 268,000-ounce Flushing Meadows mineral resource.
RC drilling at Oblique will follow-up a raft of intercepts from phase two RC drilling done back in November and will test regolith anomalies across the northern half of the prospect.
The diamond drilling will include several broad-spaced holes as a framework program to test the depth extensions of mineralisation within fresh rock along 800 metres of strike and test the broader scale of the mineralised system.
At Quarter Moon, the drilling will test along strike and below higher-grade intercepts to understand the continuity and geometry of mineralisation.
Two 400-metre-deep diamond holes are planned across the New England Granite prospect and are co-funded under the Geological Survey of Western Australia Exploration Incentive Scheme.
The resultant data will assist in the design of a broader drilling campaign across the prospect scheduled for the June quarter.
Extensive soil testing
Yandal also has plans to follow up on a successful orientation soil program across selected areas of the project with a large-scale follow-up soil program.
The company has around $7.5 million in available funds and is well-positioned to stay on the ground and prosecute an active exploration campaign throughout 2024.
Managing director Tim Kennedy said: “Following the very encouraging results from our drilling at Oblique in Q4 last year, we were keen to get back out with a follow-up program as soon as possible.
“It’s great to report that a program, focused on extending the footprint of the prospect along strike and at depth, has commenced.
“This is earlier than we would normally be drilling at Ironstone Well-Barwidgee due to the risk of inclement weather, but as we have such a full exploration program planned for 2024 it was important to get going at the earliest possible time.
“The program at Oblique will also include a number of pre-collars in preparation for deeper diamond drilling in April. Upon completion of the holes at Oblique, the RC rig will move to Quarter Moon. We look forward to providing further updates as drilling progresses and results come to hand.”
