Yandal Resources Ltd (ASX:YRL) has been highly encouraged by gold intersections from two diamond-drilled holes at the New England Granite (NEG) prospect, part of the Ironstone Well-Barwidgee (IWB) Gold Project in the Yandal Greenstone Belt of Western Australia.
The two holes were completed to collect important structural information about the rocks at NEG but struck notable gold mineralisation as well as fulfilling their original purpose.
Yandal says the gold hits are highly encouraging given the early stage of the prospect and the large scale of the target area, demonstrating potential for mineralisation to occur in several different geological settings.
Results graded up to 3.3 metres at 1.1 g/t gold from 345.3 metres of depth, including an intersection of 0.9 metres at 1.8 g/t gold from 347.6 metres.
Clear evidence of gold mineralisation
“The exploration team is very pleased with results from our two Exploration Incentive Scheme diamond holes completed at our New England Granite Prospect,” Yandal managing director Chris Oorschot said.
“This program was designed to confirm the potential of the New England Granite Prospect to host gold mineralisation and provide structural data to assist in designing a broader reverse circulation (RC) program.
“Seeing evidence of mineralisation and a clear structural context is an encouraging result, given the scale of the targeted intrusive host and the extent of shallow transported cover.
“Both holes have significantly improved our understanding of the source of the broad-scale regolith anomaly across the eastern margin of the 4-kilometre long and 2-kilometre-wide intrusive body.
“Going forward, our focus will be to broadly test the anomalous margin with RC drilling targeted at interpreted crosscutting structures.
“We have more than 4 kilometres of anomalous intrusive margin; it is an extensive exploration search space, so we are only just getting started across the New England Granite Prospect.”
Assay results and next steps
Notable assays from these latest diamond drilled holes include:
- 3.3 metres at 1.1g/t gold from 345.3 metres, including 0.9 metres at 1.8g/t gold from 347.6 metres;
- 2.9 metres at 0.5g/t gold from 286.2 metres;
- 3.8 metres at 0.4g/t gold from 384.1 metres, including 0.3 metres at 1.9g/t gold from 385.5 metres;
- 0.5 metres at 2.2g/t gold from 393.2 metres;
- 8.0 metres at 0.4g/t gold from 137.0 metres; and,

Yandal has already begun follow-up RC drilling across the New England Granite prospect.
The company is also awaiting results from a recently completed program at the Quarter Moon prospect, which are expected within the next few weeks, and is poised to begin first-pass aircore drilling at the Irulan and Caladan targets in early October.
