Volt Resources Ltd (ASX:VRC) continues to make inroads into the battery material industry with subsidiary Volt Energy Materials (VEM) LLC, a US-based company, providing graphite products for the battery market.
VEM’s offerings include coated spheronised purified graphite (CSPG) for the lithium-ion battery (LIB) market, graphite coatings and electrode additives for the alkaline battery market and graphite expander additives for negative electrodes in the lead-acid battery market.
“The company is excited to summarise for investors the strong progress made across our downstream processing initiatives in the US this year, given the significant value uplift in creating finished graphite battery products,” Volt Resources managing director Trevor Matthews said.
Volt’s subsidiary recently appointed Prashant Chintawar as senior advisor for battery materials, joining Michael Lew, the vice president of business development in the USA and other advisers on the VEM team.
Technical and collaboration agreements
Volt Energy Materials has also developed its technical partnership with American Energy Technologies Corporation (AETC), adopting an inverted flowsheet based on AETC test-work.
VRC believes this proprietary process will enable the conversion of a large portion of its graphite feed – having achieved yields of 74% in the production of battery-ready anode material for lithium-ion batteries – and the production of a range of ultra-high purity by-products.

“We have partnerships with a number of key groups, which allows us to develop products that utilise all graphite feedstock which supports excellent economics,” Matthews continued
“These partners include Energy Supply Developers which has chosen Volt to be the CSPG supplier for its Super Site; Urban Electric Power for graphite coatings for the Alkaline battery market; and Apollo Energy Systems for Lead acid battery markets.
“We see these partnerships, and an additional soon-to-be-announced partnership, as highly valuable opportunities for Volt’s shareholders and we look forward to continuing to update you as they progress.”
Volt says the soon-to-be-announced partnership involves the supply of CSPG for a lithium-ion battery cell developer collaboration agreement, currently in the process of being negotiated.
