Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Oil & Gas Producers and Electrical sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 5.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 5.14% or 96.00 points to trade at 1964.00 at the close. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) added 2.09% or 4.30 points to end at 210.00 and Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) was up 1.78% or 25.00 points to 1427.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 20.52% or 253.4 points to trade at 981.6 in late trade. Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) declined 11.61% or 860.0 points to end at 6550.0 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) shed 11.09% or 500.0 points to 4008.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1567 to 599 and 128 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.69% or 27.95 to $1623.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 6.64% or 1.50 to hit $21.10 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 5.96% or 1.57 to trade at $24.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.91% to 1.2434, while EUR/GBP fell 1.21% to 0.8926.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.70% at 98.755.
