Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Oil & Gas Producers and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 3.89% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU), which rose 0.96% or 10.00 points to trade at 1,053.50 at the close. Segro Plc (LON:SGRO) added 0.31% or 2.40 points to end at 782.60 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 0.14% or 1.00 points to 737.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Prudential PLC (LON:PRU), which lost 12.43% or 147.00 points to trade at 1,036.00 in late trade. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) declined 10.72% or 49.45 points to end at 412.00 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) shed 9.09% or 13.82 points to 138.24.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1512 to 370 and 420 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.01% or 19.30 to $1,930.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 6.08% or 4.34 to hit $66.99 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 5.62% or 4.35 to trade at $73.10 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.97% to 1.20, while EUR/GBP fell 0.70% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.26% at 104.51.
