Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Automobiles & Parts and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 3.84%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 1.15% or 8.80 points to trade at 776.20 at the close. London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE) added 0.35% or 28.0 points to end at 8094.0 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) was up 0.31% or 0.70 points to 227.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 12.14% or 164.5 points to trade at 1190.0 in late trade. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) declined 10.22% or 12.65 points to end at 111.15 and ITV PLC (LON:ITV) shed 9.22% or 7.72 points to 76.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1899 to 375 and 101 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.05% or 18.05 to $1738.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 8.03% or 3.18 to hit $36.42 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 7.19% or 3.00 to trade at $38.73 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.09% to 1.2606, while EUR/GBP rose 0.87% to 0.8996.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.56% at 96.485.
