Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Electronic & Electrical Equipment and Beverage sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 3.73% to hit a new 5-year low.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Royal Dutch Shell PLC Class A (LON:RDSa), which rose 6.14% or 65.2 points to trade at 1127.4 at the close. Royal Dutch Shell PLC Class A (LON:RDSa) added 5.97% or 63.41 points to end at 1125.61 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 4.10% or 24.40 points to 620.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which lost 17.08% or 238.50 points to trade at 1158.00 in late trade. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) declined 13.10% or 78.60 points to end at 521.40 and St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) shed 12.58% or 95.00 points to 660.00.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1783 to 436 and 97 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 5.24% or 77.75 to $1562.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.18% or 0.04 to hit $22.67 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.45% or 0.39 to trade at $26.59 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.99% to 1.1526, while EUR/GBP rose 1.72% to 0.9325.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 103.125.
