Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mining, Insurance and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 2.56%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSEG), which rose 9.64% or 614.00 points to trade at 6,984.00 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 5.28% or 23.90 points to end at 476.50 and BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB) was up 2.12% or 56.50 points to 2,719.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ITV PLC (LON:ITV), which lost 27.50% or 30.43 points to trade at 80.22 in late trade. Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) declined 14.13% or 418.00 points to end at 2,540.00 and Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) shed 8.36% or 11.85 points to 129.90.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1553 to 425 and 369 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.69% or 13.20 to $1,935.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.32% or 0.35 to hit $110.25 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.60% or 0.68 to trade at $112.25 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.47% to 1.33, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.02% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 97.77.
