Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Electrical and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 2.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which rose 4.46% or 88.50 points to trade at 2072.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 3.83% or 28.00 points to end at 758.40 and BAE Systems PLC (LON:BAES) was up 1.30% or 6.80 points to 530.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT), which lost 7.95% or 28.40 points to trade at 329.00 in late trade. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) declined 7.13% or 28.40 points to end at 370.00 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) shed 6.41% or 9.00 points to 131.35.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1574 to 669 and 131 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.97% or 16.55 to $1721.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.73% or 0.28 to hit $37.91 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.15% or 0.47 to trade at $40.33 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.09% to 1.2734, while EUR/GBP rose 0.33% to 0.8904.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 96.368.
