Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Household Goods & Home Construction and Healthcare Equipment & Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.73% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK), which rose 3.36% or 141.00 points to trade at 4,333.00 at the close. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) added 2.29% or 9.20 points to end at 411.80 and SSE PLC (LON:SSE) was up 1.63% or 30.50 points to 1,900.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 6.94% or 55.40 points to trade at 743.20 in late trade. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) declined 5.94% or 69.50 points to end at 1,101.50 and Aviva PLC (LON:AV) shed 5.88% or 24.90 points to 398.90.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1369 to 391 and 466 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.55% or 10.80 to $1,963.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.51% or 0.37 to hit $73.28 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.40% or 0.31 to trade at $77.15 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.36% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.25% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.36% at 103.76.
