Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Banking, Industrial Metals & Mining and Electrical sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.58% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB), which rose 2.02% or 11.20 points to trade at 565.20 at the close. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) added 0.40% or 3.20 points to end at 799.40 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 0.11% or 0.60 points to 526.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Phoenix Group Holdings PLC (LON:PHNX), which lost 3.56% or 19.20 points to trade at 520.60 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 3.45% or 20.00 points to end at 560.00 and HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) shed 3.41% or 21.20 points to 600.30.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1157 to 428 and 495 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.45% or 8.75 to $1,935.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.17% or 1.79 to hit $80.72 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.87% or 1.61 to trade at $84.60 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.31% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.16% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 102.99.
