Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, Banking and Electrical sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.50%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were MMC Noril Nick (LON:NKELyq), which rose 2.96% or 0.75 points to trade at 26.08 at the close. Surgutneftegaz L (LON:SNGSyq) added 2.40% or 0.13 points to end at 5.54 and Coca Cola HBC AG (LON:CCH) was up 1.67% or 33.0 points to 2006.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 6.76% or 26.60 points to trade at 366.90 in late trade. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) declined 5.53% or 135.0 points to end at 2305.0 and Informa PLC (LON:INF) shed 4.09% or 19.30 points to 452.70.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1402 to 750 and 133 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.90% or 16.15 to $1809.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.44% or 0.18 to hit $40.81 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.60% or 0.26 to trade at $43.36 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.56% to 1.2561, while EUR/GBP fell 0.70% to 0.8988.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 96.805.
