Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Engineering, Automobiles & Parts and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.47%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI), which rose 3.86% or 71.00 points to trade at 1911.00 at the close. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) added 3.02% or 174.00 points to end at 5940.00 and Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) was up 2.67% or 42.50 points to 1634.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL), which lost 5.48% or 20.40 points to trade at 351.60 in late trade. Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) declined 3.76% or 142.00 points to end at 3638.50 and Old Mutual PLC (LON:OML) shed 3.45% or 8.80 points to 246.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1348 to 575 and 122 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.16% or 15.20 to $1320.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.16% or 0.10 to hit $61.09 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.38% or 0.24 to trade at $64.07 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.07% to 1.3763, while EUR/GBP rose 0.49% to 0.8948.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 89.99.
