Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas Producers, Media and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which rose 5.52% or 72.50 points to trade at 1,386.50 at the close. HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) added 3.50% or 20.10 points to end at 593.90 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was up 2.75% or 18.00 points to 672.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BP PLC (LON:BP), which lost 8.62% or 46.05 points to trade at 488.35 in late trade. Relx PLC (LON:REL) declined 5.10% or 135.00 points to end at 2,511.00 and Shell PLC (LON:SHEL) shed 4.47% or 109.50 points to 2,342.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1125 to 669 and 488 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.62% or 32.35 to $2,024.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 5.31% or 4.02 to hit $71.64 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 4.99% or 3.96 to trade at $75.35 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.21% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.42% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 101.73.
