Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Electrical and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSE), which rose 6.89% or 464.0 points to trade at 7200.0 at the close. Surgutneftegaz L (LON:SNGSyq) added 5.03% or 0.23 points to end at 4.72 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was up 4.64% or 101.00 points to 2279.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN), which lost 10.05% or 17.85 points to trade at 159.70 in late trade. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) declined 9.59% or 26.70 points to end at 251.60 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) shed 8.75% or 237.0 points to 2471.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1287 to 835 and 158 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.40% or 6.60 to $1644.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 6.48% or 1.64 to hit $26.96 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 9.42% or 2.82 to trade at $32.76 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.23% to 1.2240, while EUR/GBP rose 0.61% to 0.8811.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.63% at 100.900.
