Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Life Insurance/Assurance and Electrical sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 3.12% or 40.50 points to trade at 1338.00 at the close. Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN) added 1.74% or 30.00 points to end at 1750.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) was up 1.25% or 72.00 points to 5830.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dixons Carphone PLC (LON:DC), which lost 20.74% or 48.40 points to trade at 185.00 in late trade. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) declined 5.11% or 7.50 points to end at 139.40 and Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LON:DLGD) shed 4.27% or 15.90 points to 356.70.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1516 to 495 and 335 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.05% or 0.60 to $1303.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.68% or 1.82 to hit $66.06 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.64% or 0.48 to trade at $74.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.41% to 1.3255, while EUR/GBP fell 0.17% to 0.8718.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.38% at 94.72.
