Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Electrical, Gas, Water & Multiutilities and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.20% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq), which rose 1.91% or 20.50 points to trade at 1,095.50 at the close. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) added 1.74% or 1.10 points to end at 64.30 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) was up 1.73% or 1.84 points to 108.22 in late trade.
Biggest losers included National Grid PLC (LON:NG), which lost 4.14% or 46.50 points to trade at 1,078.00 in late trade. SSE PLC (LON:SSE) declined 3.42% or 58.50 points to end at 1,652.50 and AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) shed 2.97% or 326.00 points to 10,644.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1101 to 735 and 449 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.50% or 8.75 to $1,727.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.70% or 0.64 to hit $91.00 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.76% or 0.74 to trade at $97.10 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.26% to 1.16, while EUR/GBP rose 0.66% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 108.59.
