Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, General Retailers and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 1.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which rose 5.95% or 15.05 points to trade at 268.05 at the close. HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) added 3.38% or 13.30 points to end at 406.30 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 2.31% or 18.00 points to 796.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which lost 5.46% or 74.00 points to trade at 1282.00 in late trade. Next PLC (LON:NXT) declined 4.83% or 388.0 points to end at 7654.0 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 4.62% or 32.00 points to 661.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1620 to 457 and 379 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.11% or 1.90 to $1762.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.05% or 1.62 to hit $77.31 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 2.02% or 1.67 to trade at $80.89 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.45% to 1.3568, while EUR/GBP rose 0.08% to 0.8512.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.55% at 94.297.
