Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Electrical and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.03% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which rose 0.91% or 4.50 points to trade at 499.50 at the close. Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) added 0.40% or 1.00 points to end at 248.80 and AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) was up 0.38% or 40.00 points to 10,620.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which lost 6.80% or 41.80 points to trade at 573.40 in late trade. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) declined 3.89% or 43.00 points to end at 1,063.00 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) shed 3.51% or 89.00 points to 2,450.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1122 to 504 and 507 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.13% or 2.45 to $1,927.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.88% or 2.01 to hit $71.80 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.43% or 0.33 to trade at $76.58 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.14% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 102.93.
