Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Construction & Materials, Beverage and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.93%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 2.12% or 2.78 points to trade at 134.06 at the close. Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:BKGH) added 1.39% or 53.00 points to end at 3,867.00 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) was up 1.19% or 4.80 points to 408.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq), which lost 4.86% or 56.50 points to trade at 1,106.50 in late trade. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) declined 4.15% or 28.60 points to end at 660.00 and DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) shed 3.83% or 12.50 points to 313.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1315 to 452 and 456 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.65% or 29.95 to $1,788.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.45% or 0.35 to hit $76.93 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.85% or 0.70 to trade at $82.00 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 2.01% to 1.22, while EUR/GBP rose 1.30% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.98% at 104.43.
