Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Construction & Materials, Industrial Metals & Mining and General Retailers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.93%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK), which rose 1.50% or 24.0 points to trade at 1621.6 at the close. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) added 1.18% or 1.60 points to end at 137.75 and Shire PLC (LON:SHP) was up 1.00% or 45.00 points to 4550.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 6.61% or 79.00 points to trade at 1117.00 in late trade. Capita PLC (LON:CPI) declined 5.49% or 6.00 points to end at 103.30 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) shed 4.30% or 36.00 points to 800.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1232 to 818 and 364 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.25% or 3.10 to $1227.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.35% or 0.18 to hit $51.27 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.48% or 0.29 to trade at $59.62 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.11% to 1.2772, while EUR/GBP fell 0.49% to 0.8866.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.39% at 97.072.
