Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Automobiles & Parts, Household Goods & Home Construction and General Retailers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.91% to hit a new 52-week low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 6.21% or 31.60 points to trade at 540.40 at the close. Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) added 2.64% or 12.50 points to end at 486.00 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 1.61% or 1.80 points to 113.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which lost 6.18% or 75.00 points to trade at 1,138.50 in late trade. Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) declined 5.80% or 2.40 points to end at 39.09 and B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:BMEB) shed 5.17% or 16.20 points to 296.90.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1306 to 535 and 419 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.52% or 8.70 to $1,677.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.47% or 2.21 to hit $87.14 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 2.09% or 1.97 to trade at $92.32 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.97% to 1.11, while EUR/GBP fell 1.08% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 113.32.
