Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.86% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Phoenix Group Holdings PLC (LON:PHNX), which rose 1.33% or 9.90 points to trade at 753.90 at the close. Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) added 1.16% or 2.50 points to end at 218.90 and Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) was up 0.98% or 1.50 points to 154.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which lost 4.83% or 43.80 points to trade at 863.20 in late trade. Surgutneftegaz L (LON:SNGSyq) declined 4.34% or 0.34 points to end at 7.60 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) shed 3.94% or 25.00 points to 609.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1519 to 593 and 183 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.61% or 9.55 to $1566.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 3.31% or 1.88 to hit $54.86 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 2.96% or 1.87 to trade at $61.34 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.27% to 1.3105, while EUR/GBP fell 0.05% to 0.8434.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 97.500.
