Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Engineering, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.85% to hit a new 3-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which rose 4.99% or 7.15 points to trade at 150.55 at the close. United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) added 1.51% or 10.80 points to end at 723.60 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) was up 1.51% or 29.00 points to 1951.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT), which lost 4.55% or 73.60 points to trade at 1544.80 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 3.25% or 65.00 points to end at 1934.50 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) shed 2.56% or 8.00 points to 304.10.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1268 to 749 and 332 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.24% or 2.90 to $1204.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.18% or 1.50 to hit $67.22 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.79% or 1.38 to trade at $75.89 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.29% to 1.2942, while EUR/GBP fell 0.34% to 0.8981.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 95.05.
