Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Banking, Oil & Gas Producers and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.84%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK), which rose 6.08% or 300.0 points to trade at 5238.0 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) added 4.43% or 24.40 points to end at 574.80 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) was up 3.71% or 4.10 points to 114.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which lost 13.44% or 382.0 points to trade at 2461.0 in late trade. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) declined 5.32% or 22.00 points to end at 391.50 and Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) shed 4.94% or 1.48 points to 28.39.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1062 to 861 and 153 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.66% or 29.15 to $1722.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.60% or 0.20 to hit $33.69 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.56% or 0.20 to trade at $35.95 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.01% to 1.2237, while EUR/GBP fell 0.07% to 0.8961.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 99.355.
